Welcome to The Monitor Online

RELATED

For 112 years, The Boulder Monitor has provided Jefferson County with local news, features, and perspective — every week, once a week.

That’s now changing.

I’m pleased and proud to welcome you to The Monitor Online. Here, you’ll find coverage of the happenings that matter, as they happen.  You’ll see the news for each community in its own section – a news feed each for Basin, Boulder, Clancy, Jefferson City, Montana City, and Whitehall. You can search for past stories, and we’ll be adding more and more from our archive.

And it’s designed to work as well on your phone or your tablet as it does on your computer. The Monitor will go wherever you do.

It’s a different way of getting the news, one we believe will appeal to the many people who get most of their information, do most of their shopping, and enjoy most of their entertainment online.

Whether in print or online, the mission of The Monitor will not change. It serves the people of Jefferson County, reflecting their reality, informing their ambitions, and helping them to navigate their shared future. It endeavors to provide authoritative, fact-based reporting that surfaces and explains issues at the heart of our community — exploring both urgent challenges and the responses to those challenges. It holds power to account, by demanding transparency, investigating wrongdoing, and revealing how what’s broken could be fixed. And The Monitor fairly represents the region’s diverse range of perspective, not beholden to one path or another or to any politicians, political parties, or special interests.

The Monitor Online will be free to all until late September. After that, a subscription will cost $35, although print subscribers will continue to enjoy it at no extra cost.

Please explore The Monitor Online, and tell us what you think. It’s new, and we’re still experimenting, so you’ll probably notice changes from time to time as we figure out what works, and what doesn’t. You’ll also probably notice some mistakes – and please, let us know about those.

Thank you for joining us on this new leg of The Monitor’s long journey. And welcome online.
