Boulder Mayor Gary Craft has proclaimed Sunday, Sep- tember 24, as CROP Hunger Walk Day. The day will include a 3 p.m. walk to raise money to fight hunger around the world and in Jefferson County. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. at Veteran’s Park on Main Street.
The walk, marking its 21st year in Boulder, will be followed by an international potluck dinner at the City Hall. A portion of the funds raised through the event will go to help Jeffco Food Share, a food pantry that serves the area for the benefit of Jefferson County residents.
The CROP Walk program began shortly after World War II as an effort to gather wheat and other crops in the U.S. for shipment to help European war victims. It has since grown to raise over $12 million annually all across the U.S., helping more than 2200 local food pantries in the U.S. in addition to foreign countries.
“Church World Service-sponsored CROP Hunger Walks are an important part of community life for more than 2000 towns and cities in the United States, bringing together people of different faiths, diverse cultures, and all age groups,” said Craft in the CROP Walk declaration.
