Volunteers install dog waste bins

Just in time for Halloween, a spirit was spotted at the Boulder cemetery. It wasn’t a scary spirit, though. It was the spirit of community cooperation and beautification.

A project backed by the Animal Shelter & Care Committee and the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce resulted in the placement of dog waste stations in the city’s parks and cemetery.

“More and more Boulder residents attending community events with their dogs, taking them on their walks around town and through the Boulder Cemetery, has created an issue in the parks and at the cemetery,” said AS&CC organizer Cheryl Haasakker.

“We are happy to announce that with the City’s permission, five dog waste stations have been installed at the city parks and the Boulder cemetery,” she said. Station sites can be found at Centennial Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Eastside Park and the Boulder Cemetery.

“Each station provides everything that a pet owner needs to keep our parks beautiful and dog-litter free,” she added.

Included at each station are baggies for collecting dog waste and receptacles for the filled bags.

Haasakker and her fellow AS&CC organizers Vickie Cordeiro and Barb Reiter said the support and generous donation of the Boulder Chamber, plus the permission of city officials, made it possible to complete the project.

The AS&CC and Chamber encourage everyone to use the dog waste stations to make visits to the parks and cemetery more pleasant for everyone.
