Volunteer for Kiwanis to support July 4th, more

In response to the recent article in the Boulder Monitor, “County groups and services face volunteer shortages,” Boulder Kiwanis would like to remind residents that members meet monthly on the first and third Saturday at the Elkhorn Café at 8 a.m. We have experimented with different days, times and places and are open to change if it would mean increased community participation.

The Kiwanis Club motto is “Serving the Children of the World,” which is why we currently support sports camps for kids, the annual basketball tournament, Mariah’s Challenge, the 21st Century playground project, Toys for Tots, Jefferson High School music program trips and other school groups or individuals working to attend out-of-state events such as the national Vocational Industrial Clubs of America event.

This year, we were able to award three $500 scholarships to three outstanding JHS graduates and plan to begin the Bring Up Grades (BUG) program in Boulder Elementary School to recognize kids who are working hard to improve their grades and other aspects of their school life. The Easter egg hunt is another fun event the Kiwanis Club sponsors.
