TV time-out for Boulder area

Boulder-area televisions stopped receiving signals from local CBS affiliates last week and may not receive them again until the new year.

Recalling that a similar problem with Channel 6 last year took eight months to fix, Boulder TV Board President Rick Haasakker said the recent loss of Channel 4 reception stemmed from the same issue. On Oct 21, CBS broadcasting stations in Bozeman and Butte switched from a VHF signal to UHF.

“The VHF kind of bounced over the mountains, but UHF doesn’t do that very well,” said Haasakker, adding that he and his technician went up to the TV building on Depot Hill and installed the new special antenna.
