I read with much interest your article about the conversation with Mayor Rusty Giulio and Sue Pasini’s “Letter to the Editor” in the May 15 issue of the Monitor.
As a relative newcomer to Boulder, having recently retired here with my wife from New York, I would like to put forth my opinion of the interview and Ms. Pasini’s letter.
I agree with Ms. Pasini’s letter in regards to the overall age of the residents within Boulder and I agree with Mayor Giulio’s opinion that more affordable residential housing as well as more opportunities within the community is needed. In my opinion, Ms. Pasini has a very good idea that more has to be done to utilize the former MDC grounds. The local representatives must work with the state to turn over at a minimal cost to Boulder and Jefferson County the use of the grounds so that buildings that can be converted into housing for much lower cost than opening new developments will incur. The infrastructure is already in place and the buildings, especially those which are multi-storied, should be converted into living space. Yes, in order to meet ADA requirements, an elevator will need to be installed, but the “bones” are excellent.
