Freshly arrived from Downington, Pa., Bea Nonnemaker has come to Boulder as an Americorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA), where she will spend the next year working with Southwest Montana Youth Partners (SMYP) to improve childcare programs in Jefferson County.

“I’ve always said to people that I wanted to move to Montana someday,” said Nonnemaker in an interview with The Monitor. “When I left college, I was a little uncertain what I wanted to do. But I found this program through Americorps, and thought it was a great opportunity to gain some experience, and live somewhere new on my own.”

Nonnemaker graduated last May from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where she majored in Biology. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the Alliance for Planet Earth club, where she participated in a variety of community service projects, such as beach and street cleanups. She also worked as an attendant in a veterinarian’s office.
