The silence that threatens our democracy

The silence of Montana’s Congressional Delegation is deafening. Does anyone truly believe the steps taken by President Trump serve American interests? The trajectory of our government suggests otherwise—the damage risks becoming irreparable, as with Humpty Dumpty.

Should we stand by and allow this dismantling of our nation’s core values? Economic policies like crippling tariffs, disassembly of Social Security, and decimation of low-income programs threaten the financial stability of millions.

Abuse of power runs rampant, from the misuse of emergency laws to vindictive actions against political opponents, improprieties in the Oval Office, and granting unfettered access to sensitive data.

Democratic principles erode as press freedoms are stifled, books are banned from military libraries,  executive orders overwhelm Congress and the public, and protective regulations vanish.

On the global stage, animosity toward allies and support for adversaries like Russia undermine our standing. Human rights violations, such as the “disappearance” of immigrants tarnish our moral compass.

National security is jeopardized in chat apps, while social and cultural policies spread disinformation and hatred, portraying equity as discrimination. Governmental dysfunction deepens as public-serving departments are gutted.

This is not the America we know—or want. The silence of the Montana Republican party and the blind faith that democracy will endure is either ignorance or complicity. It’s time to protect the values that define us.

Congress isn’t stepping up. We, the people, must. Don’t “wait and see” what unfolds in the coming months and years —speak up, take to the streets, contact your representatives, before it’s too late!
