Simplicity is key for Panthers’ volleyball coach Mike Majors. Success begins with fundamentals, he tells his players, urging them to “keep it super simple” — a more committed and family-friendly version of “keep it simple, stupid.”

After decades of achievement at the highest levels, Majors knows flash plays are unnecessary if players consistently serve, pass, hit and defend at a high level. “Focusing on the basics, you give yourself a chance to compete against anybody,” he told The Monitor.

That elementary outlook has served as the foundation of a glittering coaching career, and has over the past dozen years remade Jefferson High volleyball.
