SUPER BOWL SUNDAY EVENT PLANNED Teen party gets support from county commission

Jefferson County will contribute $2000 in support of the DUI Task Force’s Second Annual Teen Super Bowl Party, the commissioners decided January 10. 

The event – a joint effort of the task force, Mariah’s Challenge and the Jefferson County Tobacco Prevention program – attracted about 40 high school students last year and is hoping to be bigger and better this year, abuse prevention specialist Barb Reiter told the commission last week. 

“The Super Bowl is one of the bigger drinking times,” said Reiter. The idea behind the party is to give the teens “a chance to come together to see that they can have fun without alcohol.” Reiter said the commercials during the big game, many promoting alcohol consumption, are blacked out at the party.
