Montana’s Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) wants to honor Montanans aged 100 or older at the 49th annual Governor’s Conference on Aging in September.
The event will be held at two locations, Kalispell and Glendive. Centenarians will be honored at noon luncheons on the first day of each conference. The Kalispell luncheon is Thursday, September 7 at noon at the Kalispell Red Lion, and the Glendive luncheon is slated for Tuesday, September 2 at noon at the Glendive Eastern Plains Event Center. T
he conference also wants to honor Montana’s oldest citizen. Last year the department honored 142 centenarians, eight in person at the luncheons.
Anyone may submit information by August 25 on a centenarian to be honored. Information forms are available online at dphhs.mt.gov/SLTC/aging/centenarians.aspx.
All centenarians for whom information is submitted will receive a recognition proclamation from Governor Steve Bullock. Attendance at the luncheons is optional, though officials say the event is always fun for everyone.
“We are really looking forward to honoring Montana’s Centenarians next month,” said DPHHS Director Sheila Hogan. “We look forward to this event every year, and we’re hoping that several of these inspiring individuals will be able to attend the luncheons.”
The application requires the centenarian’s name, contact information, birthdate, and asks whether the centenarian is a veteran. There are also a series of option questions to help others get to know the centenarian, such as:
• if not born in Montana, how did they get to the state;
• what is their secret to longevity;
• what is the most amazing event in their life they would like to share;
• and what is their favorite quote.
