State rep Bertoglio named to Commerce post

Governor Greg Gianforte on Monday named Marta Bertoglio Montana’s new Commerce Department director, putting the Clancy resident in charge of the agency responsible for attracting new business to the state and supporting employers already here.

The June 16 appointment was “not even on the radar” before Gianforte reached out to her last month, Bertoglio told The Monitor. But, she added, “I feel like everything I’ve done has been leading to this.”

Before running to be representative of House District 75, Bertoglio, a native of Deer Lodge, attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and served for 20 years as an Air Force officer. She returned to Montana and co-built Uncommon Ground, a real estate agency in Helena.
