Winter sports officially ended last weekend with the Class B basketball state championships in Billings — in my opinion, the best place in Montana to hold big tournaments like this.

Baker, which defeated Jefferson in the South division semifinals, took the girls’ title with wins over Chinook, Ennis and then Missoula Loyola in the final, 57-44. Loyola had beaten Huntley Project and Malta in its first two games. Huntley Project took third with a 58-50 win over Anaconda.

Missoula Loyola won the Class B boys’ title by defeating Manhattan, 64-39, and Poplar, 63-42, their first two games, then besting Fairview, 69-54, for the championship. Lodge Grass defeated Arlee, 78-77, for third place.
