Kevin League got his first cameras, 35mm Nikon hand-me-downs, from his parents when he was a teenager. That led to a passion for photography, intertwined with a love for Montana’s natural environment.

League’s soul-stirring images have appeared in Montana Outdoors, on magazine covers, online, and in regional travel and tourism publications. And 90 of his photographs illustrate the new book “Saving the Big Sky: A Chronicle of Land Conservation in Montana” (Oregon State University Press). 

The images on this page were taken under night skies in Jefferson County. League says he has been Influenced by early conservation photographers such as as Ansel Adams, Philip Hyde, and William Henry Jackson, whose images were critical in the creation of Yellowstone National Park.
