Some area churches resume in-person services

Members of Friendship Baptist Church in Clancy practiced social distancing Sunday while attending the first in-person service in weeks, as the state begins to lift stay-at-home restictions due to COVID-19.

Members of Friendship Baptist Church in Clancy gathered Sunday for the first in-person service since Gov. Steve Bullock issued a stay-at-home order in late March due to COVID-19.

Parishioners eagerly greeted one another and kept a varying number of feet apart as social distancing is still in effect. In the sanctuary, rows of seats were grouped, but spread out, to allow for individuals, as well as larger family groups, to sit. About 30-35 members braved the first in-house service, and it was streamed on Zoom for those still wanting to remain at home.

Pastor David Klass and his team got busy just hours after Bullock’s announcement April 22 that the state would begin gradual phasing in of activity, with churches being the first to have restrictions lifted. Klass said they immediately began arranging chairs in the sanctuary to meet the social distancing requirements.
