Robert Leslie Feathers Jr., known to all as “Feathers,” passed away at the Fort Harrison VA Hospital in Helena on Apr. 5, 2024 after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Feathers was born on Aug. 10, 1945 in Lima, Ohio to Dorothy (Mueller) Feathers and Robert Feathers Sr. He grew up in Columbus and entered the Marine Corps in 1964. He saw active duty in Subic Bay, Philippines until his discharge in 1969. While in the Marine Corps, he was a Sharpshooter and won many competitions and badges.
Feathers moved to Boulder in 1996 and Montana quickly became his home. He then moved to Helena to be closer to the VA Hospital for treatment of his COPD. Feathers became a licensed poker dealer and traveled extensively for poker tournaments. A great deal of his free time was spent in poker rooms. He won a No Limit Hold ’Em Tournament on Mar. 13, 2024 at Miller’s Crossing.
Feathers was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife, Diane and stepson Greg, and his companion, Linda Talkington of Boulder. He is survived by his sons, Kelsey (Andrea) and Cameron and his stepdaughter Tracy, as well as his grandchildren Owen, Madysen and Colin. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Janis Jere and Joyce Conroy and by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by his close friends Jim and Cathy Birtcher of Boulder and Mike Slies of Helena and by his fellow residents in the Pleasant Glen Community.
His cherished dog and constant companion, Maxwell, is now with him for eternity. Feathers and Max will be interred in St. John’s Cemetery in Delphos, Ohio, with his parents.
