Rep. DeVries’ views hurt county residents

As a 79-year-old retiree who lives in House District 75 and is on Social Security, I am appalled that the people of this district actually voted for and elected Greg DeVries to public office.

He has publicly stated that he would like it if the federal government were permanently closed and all of the people who are dependent on necessary public services would no longer receive those services. If my wife and I did not have the Social Security payments that we worked for all of our working lives, we could end up homeless and living on the streets.

Greg DeVries also voted against funding for the public education system that is currently allowing our granddaughter to receive the education and skills that she will need for her future success in life. If a foreign power took over Jefferson County and said Jefferson High School did not deserve adequate funding we would be rightfully concerned. It is a great school, with high academic achievement, dual high school/college credit classes, vocational programs, sports, music, drama, arts, producing young citizens who go on to contribute and make our world a better place.
