Please support ‘Red Ribbon Week’

RELATED

Over the past several years the Jefferson County DUI Task Force has supported and encouraged Jefferson County schools to become involved in Red Ribbon Week. Much of the support has come by providing schools with a moderate stipend to purchase materials and provide speakers and other resources during Red Ribbon Week. Schools have responded by providing students with activities and experiences to help them make healthier choices when presented with the challenge to use alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.

Red Ribbon Week is Oct. 23 to Oct. 31. Its theme is: “Send a message. Stay drug free.” The DUI Task Force is asking communities countywide to support our youth to make healthy choices and not use substances such as alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs and other drugs. Several town hall meetings will be held throughout the county during Red Ribbon Week to inform and assist all of us to address the challenges our youth are confronted with today. These meetings are for all parents, community members, grandparents, ministers, teachers, school board members and all adults who have youth in their lives — really, all of us.

The ad in today’s paper has more details about these meetings. Here are the dates: Whitehall/Cardwell, Oct. 22; Clancy/Jefferson City/Montana City, Oct. 24; Boulder/Basin, Oct. 29. All meetings are from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information you can also call DUI Task Force Coordinator Barb Reiter at 406-461-3618.
