Jefferson High’s fall sports teams enjoyed another great week. The volleyball squad defeated Lone Peak in three sets, 25-10, 25-12 and 25-8. The football team beat Cut Bank 38-21, in its home opener. And Boulder witnessed the first ever home game for Panther flag football.

In their first home match of the season, the volleyball Lady Panthers started out the first set with a 8-0 run, and a couple of aces put them up 13-1. Lone Peak cut the lead to 14-7, but two blocks by Ryian Eveland made it 18-8. Aubrey Rosenbaum’s kill took the score to 23-8 and the Panthers went on to win 25-10.

The Panthers started the second set with an 8-4 run, and Brooklyn Miller powered over a kill and Maia Walters served an ace to make it 13-6. Cameron Toney slammed over a kill, then blocked a hit for a point to build the lead to 16-8, and the Panthers coasted from there to a 25-12 set.

Avery Popp began the third set with an ace, and Toney’s hard kill made it 4-1. With a sneak kill by Eveland and Erica Shields’ ace, the score was 10-4, and the Panthers took the set and the match, 25-8.

Popp leads the District with 5 aces, Toney is second in kills with 14, Eveland is second in blocks with 2.5, and Shields is third in assists with 2. The Lady Panthers will be in Manhattan on Thursday, Sept. 12, and at Broadwater on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Jefferson’s football squad took on Cut Bank in its home opener Friday night, and came away with its second straight win.

The Panthers wasted no time in scoring, with Ben Werner running it in exactly one minute and 11 seconds into the game. Hunter Stevens’ kick was good, and just like that, it was 7-0 Panthers.

Quarterback Tyzer Zody passed to Mikael Richard to the one yard line and Luke Oxarart ran in from there for the second touchdown; Stevens’ PAT was wide left, but the Panthers had a 13-0 lead with 5:30 left in the first.

The Panther defense was all over the field, swarming every play that Cut Bank came up with. And the offense was clicking on all cylinders: Jefferson went up 26-0 on a pass from Zody to Cobe Brunett. Another Werner touchdown made it 38-7, and the subs closed things out.

This week the football teams travel to Malta. The varsity plays Friday night, then the JV plays Saturday morning before everyone makes the long trip home.
