If their first meet of the season left any doubt, the Jefferson High Track and Field teams confirmed last week that they are forces to be reckoned with.
At the large Sunshine meet in Laurel, the Panther boys racked up 79.5 points to top the field of 19 schools — besting host Sweet Grass County, Red Lodge, and Joliet. The girls squad scored 55 points to place third, behind Three Forks and Columbus.
On the girls side, Emma Brown took first in the pole vault, clearing 8 feet, and took 4th in the high jump at 4’6”.
Other girls in the top 20 were Callie Warfle, 19th in the 100 at 14.29 and 13th in the javelin, 75’2”; Ashley Pankratz, 11th in the 200, 29.64; Grace Alexander 3rd in the 100 hurdles, 18.36; Ashton Oxarart, 4th in the 300 hurdles, 55.54; Grace Jones, 5th in shot put, 30’7” and 17th in discus, 76’1”; Olivia Lyon, 11th in shot put, 28’8.50” and 19th in discus, 74’1”; Ashley Sullivan, 13th in discus, 79’3”; Emma Stout, 2nd in pole vault, 7’; and Hailee Stiles, 12th in long jump, 14’2.50” and 3rd in triple jump 32’1”.
The girls 4X100 relay team of Grace Alexander, Hailee Stiles, Callie Warfle and Ashley Pankratz took 2nd in 54.77, and the 4X400 relay team of Ashton Oxarart, Callie Warfle, Grace Alexander and Hailee Stiles placed 2nd in 4:24.82.
Boys who placed in the top 20 included:
•Coen Gusiti won the shot put with a throw of 45’9.50” and took second in the discus at 119’1”
•Avery Stiles won the high jump at 6’2” and took 7th in the long jump at 18’11.75”
•Carter McCauley took 2nd in the 110 hurdles in 17.05, 9th in the 300 hurdles in 48.88 and 17th in the triple jump, 34’1.75”
•Richie Canzona, 19th in the 100, 12.49
•Justin Wells, 3rd in the 200, 24.64
•Riley Stock, 10th in the 400, 59.56
•Tyler Harrington, 13th in the 800, 2:29.12 and 19th in the 1600 in 5:37.38

The 4X100 relay team of Richie Canzona, Joey Visser, Justin Wells and Avery Stiles took 3rd in 47.71. And the 4X400 relay team of Braden Morris, Joey Visser, Riley Stock and Justin Wells placed 5th in 4:00.28.
After a meet in Butte on April 16, the track teams head to Belgrade on Friday, April 19.
