Outdoors, ‘Thummy’ was in his element

My grandpa, Clifford Mummey, a Boulder resident for more than four decades, was known to many who loved him as Thummy Mummey. That was what he was called by the wife he loved for all those years and more, my grandma, Gloria.

Looking back, they had a great respect for each other, true partners who knew they could count on each other to keep food on the table, make a comfortable home, and foster good times with friends and family.

One time I found an old picture of my grandma, probably from right about the time they first met. I remember Grandpa’s words: “God dang, she is just beautiful.” He proceeded to tell me a story of when he got out of the Army and had a decision to make: buy a new car or see what would happen with this young lady. He did not choose the car. He followed his heart.
