Oro Fino chapter celebrates DAR founding month

RELATED

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded October 11, 1890. Each October since then, DAR chapters have engaged in special service projects to commemorate the founding.

This year, the DAR Oro Fino chapter, with members from Broadwater, Jefferson, Lewis & Clark, and Meagher Counties, sent a $1,400 check for historic preservation to the Helena Fire Tower Restoration Fund.

Chapter members also mailed loose-leaf Montana Tea Co. tea to the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, to be used during the 250th anniversary and reenactment of the Boston Tea Party on Dec. 16, 2023. Area history classes, youth clubs, school districts, museums, and other organizations are encouraged to mail donations of loose-leaf tea (no tea bags), with their name and address, to the museum at 306 Congress Street, Boston, MA 02210; donors will receive  certificates of participation.

Members learned at their October chapter meeting about the DAR Pathway of Patriots, a planned tribute at Independence National Park in Philadelphia to 250 supporters of our nation’s independence from Britain. Daughters wore pink and welcomed Melissa Cotner, DNP, from St. Peter’s Health who provided information on breast cancer awareness and treatment.

Daughters also promoted patriotism by providing a plate of cookies and treats to the Helena Military Office; sending $330 to the Square Foot Society of the Military Women’s Memorial Museum at Arlington; making 122 cards and collecting 56 cards made by children at the Montana City Day Care Center to send in boxes to active military from Montana; and providing 28 hours of volunteer work at The Rocking Tree Farm, which provides people suffering from trauma opportunities to heal through sustainable agriculture activities. Daughters donated $70 and will provide cookies for the farm’s Fall Fun Fundraiser.

Oro Fino Regent Gale Kramlick concluded: “What a wonderful productive Founders month Oro Fino DAR is having.”  For more information, please go to DAR.org.
