It’s ominous and vaguely unsettling, like a bit of surveillance video that reveals a crime. 

One minute several adults are chatting amiably in a school classroom; the next they’re all frozen in place. Did the camera malfunction? Did time briefly stop? Or did somebody cross the line and tamper with the recording? 

The answer is no laughing matter because of what reportedly occurred during the freeze: critics of the school board say officials of the recently shuttered, 130-year-old school may have acknowledged a violation of state law requiring teacher hiring to occur in public view.
