Music students perform well at state festival

Jefferson High School musicians and vocalists put on a good show — multiple shows, in fact — at the State Music Festival in Helena May 3-4.

Thirty students performed in 12 events, winning seven superior ratings and five excellent ratings, according to Band and Choir Director Matt Bowman.

Superior ratings went to a flute trio of Emme Rosenbaum, Jessie Molitor and Lexi Winstead; a trumpet ensemble of Ethan Smartnick, Mariah Maichel, Carter McCauley, Samuel Williams, Grace Alexander, Gracie Leiva, Abram Williams, Preston Fields, Riley Stock, Christian Davis and Dominick Davis; and soloists Emma Stout and Richie Canzone, both for vocal performance, Brailynn DeMers for clarinet, Quinn Mann for alto sax and Jessie Molitor for flute.

Winning excellent ratings were a jazz band featuring Kaela Rosenbaum, Quinn Mann, Carsen Dodge, Abbie Youde, Harley Bailey, Kylie Marks, Gabe Gillmore, Ethan Smartnick, Carter McCauley, Samuel Williams, Abram Williams, Taylor Peterson, Bryce Shields, Miles Dodge, Sadie Vaino and Alexis Popejoy; a saxophone ensemble featuring Kaela Rosenbaum, Quinn Mann, Carsen Dodge, Abbie Youde and Harley Bailey; the trio of Abbie Youde, Maddie Leiva and Ellen McLean; and soloists Kaela Rosenbaum for alto sax and Dakota Dorn for vocals.
