Montana City man recovering after 30-hour mountain ordeal

A man lost in the mountains near Montana City is carried to a helicopter.

A Montana City man found hypothermic, barefoot and in poor condition Saturday after being lost 30 hours in the nearby mountains was recovering in St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena Monday, an official says.

Dave Kauffman of Elkhorn Search and Rescue said rescuers were sent 4:30 p.m. Friday to search for the 57-year-old man, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

A post to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said he had been reported last seen in the Hill Brothers Road area in Montana City wearing jeans, a sweatshirt and a Minnesota Vikings stocking cap.
