Local food bank sees heightened demand

The JeffCo Food Share, which operates from the basement of Boulder’s Life Church on Jackson Street, recently reported that, in 2024, it served between 35 and 40 families a month, which marks a more than 40 percent increase in its service pool from the previous year.

“If you come to the Church on one of our Thursdays, you’re going to get food, period. We’re happy to do this, and, at this point, to still be able to do this,” said JeffCo Food Share President Priscilla Hedgecock.

Hedgecock is joined on the organization’s board  by Boulder residents Stu Goodner, Lisa Goodner, and Kelly Hert. They assumed leadership of the organization in December, 2023, after the previous board announced that it was considering shuttering the food aid program due to dwindling clientele, difficulty in finding consistent volunteers, and, until Hedgecock and others became involved, a seeming inability to identify replacement board members. JeffCo Food Share now has a roster of 15 volunteers who assist in collecting and distributing food.
