Local alert after measles cases reported in Gallatin

Montana Health officials last week confirmed five cases of measles in neighboring Gallatin County, the state’s first cases of the highly infectious disease since 1990. 

The infected children and adults were all exposed to measles outside Montana and are now being isolated at home. Their vaccination status is unknown. 

“The Jefferson County Health Department was saddened to hear that Gallatin County was reporting five cases of measles,” Jefferson County Public Health Supervisor Pam Hanna said via email. “Local and State public health officials have been monitoring measles activity in the US and preparing to respond if cases should be detected locally.”
