Little progress on Park Lake dam repair

The Park Lake Dam, located on the south end of the lake, was scheduled for rehabilitation after the Forest Service discovered increased seepage and potential erosion at its foundation.

The US Forest Service (USFS) says Park Lake Recreation Area will be open again this spring, but little progress has been made on a replacement for the dam.

USFS Public Affairs Officer Chiara Cipriano told The Monitor in an email that the day use and picnic  area around the park is scheduled to re-open in May, as snow melt conditions allow. The USFS campground near the lake is expected to open around Memorial Day.

The Forest Service discovered increased water seepage and erosion in the lake’s dam foundation during an annual safety and functionality inspection  in 2022. The dam on the 40-acre lake, 15 miles west of Clancy, was originally constructed in the late 1800s.
