Libraries work around COVID with donations

The North Jefferson County libraries were able to offer an in-person summer reading program due to donations from the Helena Area Community Foundation and the Legal Tender Pub and Bistro.

With the additional funding, the library was able to extend the summer reading program by two weeks — by starting a week early and ending a week later than usual. The library added more weekly activity options, and as a result, 156 children signed up and 67% of those completed the program by reading 40 hours over the summer, according to Director of Libraries Carly Delsigne.

“This is the most fun I’ve had on this job — kids earn the prizes and come in excited.  Kids complete the weekly activities, and come in to proudly show me their work.  No matter the masks and plastic barriers — this has been win-win for us all,” said Montana City Library staff member Patrick Gustin.
