Two Boulder sisters with a strong basketball heritage earned awards at the district Elks “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest Saturday in Big Timber.

Breanna Layng took second place in the 8-9 year old category for girls and Mackenzie Layng finished third in her 12-13 age division. Both are bonafide gym rats, daughters of Jefferson High head boys’ coach Clint Layng and wife Sarah, also a coach, and granddaughters of long-time JHS coach Dick Norden. They can be found on the sidelines of nearly every JHS basketball game.

Approximately 30 entrants competed in the contest across three age groups for girls and boys. Age division winners advance to the state level contest and winners there qualify for the regional event with a chance to qualify for nationals.
