The Boulder junior high wrestling team participated at the Butte Central Middle School Mixer on Thursday, March 2. Competing for Boulder were John Price, Cole Jeske, Jeyden Sullivan, Hunter Steele and Matt Travis. The Maroon Activities Center was not very kind to the wrestlers as only Jeyden Sullivan was able to get his hand raised on the evening.

Sullivan won his first-round match by major decision 13-6 and his second-round victory was by pin. On Saturday, March 4, the junior high wrestlers traveled to Dillon to take part in the Dillon Jaycee Wrestling Tournament. Three hundred middle school wrestlers were entered with a number of schools coming from the western part of the state.

Competing for Boulder were Cole Jeske and John Price at 66 pounds, Hunter Steele at 125 pounds and Matt Travis at 170 pounds. In the first round only Travis won and he did so by pin. The pin advanced him into the semifinals. In the semifinals Travis lost a close 7-6 decision.

In the first round of consolation Jeske and Steele advanced with Jeske stapling his opponent. Boulder had three wrestlers competing in the next round which was the consolation semifinals where a win would send them to the awards podium while a loss would eliminate them.

Jeske and Travis made it through with both winning by pin. Steele was defeated and eliminated from the tournament. In the consolation finals Jeske won 8-6 in overtime to take third while Travis lost a close 11-9 decision to take the fourth place spot. The junior high team will wrap up their season when they compete in the Anaconda Mixer on Tuesday, March 7.
