Joseph Stong Chance II, 67, of Boulder passed away on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Joseph was born on Dec. 16, 1958, in Portage, Wisc., to his loving parents, Virgil and Gladys (Abbott) Chance. He spent many years working in the family sign business in Wisconsin before moving with his wife Shirley to Idaho in 2000, where he worked as a fly fishing guide. A few years later, they settled in Montana, where he worked as a finish carpenter.

Joseph was a hardworking, honest, and deeply loving man. He cherished his family and was an incredibly gifted artist with a passion for woodworking. A lifelong outdoorsman, he felt closest to God while standing in a river with a fly rod in hand, the water flowing around him, and one of his many beloved dogs waiting on the bank to hear him call out, “Fish on!”
