In 2024, the Jefferson Local Development Corporation (JLDC) experienced a period of significant change and reflection, prompting us to reevaluate how best to establish ourselves as a driving and empowering force for the benefit of Jefferson County. The year brought many challenges, opportunities, and successes that required us to think deeply about our mission, our goals, and the community we serve. As John Gardner, the founder of Common Cause, a public interest organization in the U.S., once wisely observed, “We are continually faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.”

Gardner’s words resonate profoundly with JLDC’s experience over the past year. They encapsulate how our organization continues to evolve by viewing challenges not as roadblocks, but as gateways to growth, transformation, and progress. The key message here is that by rethinking our approaches when confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, we can turn adversity into innovation and use it as a catalyst for positive change. This idea of seizing opportunity within difficulty truly reflects JLDC’s enduring spirit of reevaluation and renewal. It reinforces our collective commitment to advancing the well-being of our communities and shaping a brighter future for Jefferson County.

The past year was marked by substantial accomplishments, all of which I am incredibly proud to have been part of. Among these milestones is the successful hiring of our new executive director, Sam Yeary, whose leadership is already making a tangible difference within JLDC and across the county. Under Sam’s guidance, we’ve relocated to a new home at the Whitetails Center in Whitehall, a fitting space for our organization’s continued growth and community engagement.
