The Jefferson High School wrestling team launched into 2019 with a long road trip and three days of matches.
They warmed up with a mixer January 3 at Cascade that included Great Falls Central, Highwood and Three Forks. In the first round, Jefferson collected wins from Dominick Davis at 103 pounds, Cody St. Clair at 120, Eric Lufkin at 126, Eli Reed at 138, Braeden Jones at 145, Talon DeMers at 160, Drake Schake at 182, and Dakota Dorn and Coen Guisti at 205. The second round found Christian Davis at 113 pounds, St. Clair, Lufkin, Reed, Jones, Schake, Dorn and Guisti in the winner’s circle.
The next morning, the Panthers got on the bus and traveled to Cut Bank for a two-day tournament with 27 teams, including several AA and A schools. Jefferson’s fourteen wrestlers came out on fire, winning eight straight matches by pin: Leo Anderson, Christian and Dominick Davis, St. Clair, Lufkin, Reed, Tyler Dryer, Jones, DeMers, Schake, and Guisti all won in the first round. The Davis brothers, Anderson, St. Clair, Lufkin, Jones and Schake advanced from the second round. Then Anderson, St. Clair and Schake won in the third round to make the semifinals.
