They may still be students, but the members of Jefferson High’s Business Professionals of America chapter proved January 3 that they are fully worthy of the name business professionals. Competing against teams from Helena High, Helena Capital, Butte High, Belgrade, Townsend, Manhattan, West Yellowstone, White Sulphur Springs, Ennis and Twin Bridges, the JHS team captured first place in five categories as well as qualifying students in several other categories for the state event to be held in Billings March 12-14.
Under the leadership of business teacher Dawn Smartnick, the JHS students took top honors in several important categories: website design, graphic design promotion, small business management, personal financial management and banking and finance. Human resource management, network administration using Microsoft, video production and advanced interview skills were also categories in which JHS students placed.
Jeri Copenhaver and Madi Roudebush sparked the team success by joining forces to take first place in website design. Competing solo, Copenhaver also took first in personal financial management, and along with teammates Breanna Humphrey and Merrill Steketee, Roudebush won first in small business management.
