The new year has begun and JHS has recently completed the first academic semester. Listed below are some of the events and happenings from JHS. Second semester classes began on Jan. 18 and are underway. A number of recent events will take place including tournaments, staff training, JHS days, and school and facilities planning.

The State Speech and Debate tournament was held last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This year, all students participated virtually.  A number of JHS students advanced to the state, and the following students placed in their categories: Zach Anderson and Kennedy Williams, second in Policy Debate; Katie Conroy and Quinne Shultz, third in Public Forum; Madisyn Hassler and Aidyn Springfield, eighth in Dramatic Theater; and Mason Lucas, tenth in Original Oratory

The high school will again have JHS days, inviting all 8th grade students to participate in a virtual school tour of classes and opportunity to see the multiple clubs and activities available at JHS. JHS students are currently producing the virtual tour, and upon completion it will be posted for viewing. Information will be provided about academics, registration, and a calendar of future events.

Jefferson High School has recently added a new dual credit course through Highlands College.  The course is an online automotive program that will be taught through the curriculum offered at JHS. Mr. Robbins will be the instructor and facilitator of the program. JHS has also partnered with Montana State University Northern (MSUN) for dual credit courses for Welding 3 and 4 students. Mr. Heimann has been working with MSUN to finalize an agreement. JHS continues to look for dual credit partnerships to expand learning opportunities for all students.

The JHS weight room received a much needed upgrade with the additional eight multiple use platforms.  All lifting functions can occur at these stations, improving the efficiency and usage of equipment.  The financial cost for the upgrade was split between school resources and the JHS Booster Club.  Thanks to the Booster Club for the continued partnership to benefit JHS students.

The winter sports programs continue to move through the season with basketball having another month of conference play followed by districts.  The 5B District tournaments will follow the same plan as volleyball with individual games being hosted at the highest seed school. The wrestling program will be competing in the Divisional meet at a yet to be determined site. The State B-C wrestling tournament will be held in Shelby this year. Good luck to all student athletes in the upcoming events.
