JHS Happenings in September

RELATED

The first month of the school year has been busy with many activities. The school year has begun with 272 students, another 30-plus increase from last year.

Training sessions for the Olweus program have started with the entire staff, and the subcommittee has met twice. During the month of October, a survey will take place for all students and the data will be used for the small group sessions that will occur monthly.

The school year has also started providing assistance during the eighth period for ACT Prep and math assistance. Currently, ACT prep occurs on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the subject of Science and Math. Additional math assistance occurs with the use of EdReady, an online support curriculum through the Montana Digital Academy. Later this fall, the math faculty and administration will visit Corvallis High School to learn about how they have implemented EdReady in the regular math classes and the success they have experienced.

Last week, JHS concluded homecoming week. The schedule was changed to provide greater student participation. Classes were shortened on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so the Macho Volleyball, Powder Puff football, and pep assembly could take place with the entire student body. Friday was dedicated to float decorating, the parade, and school carnival.

For the second year in a row, the pep band marched and played in the parade. There were over 40 musicians in the parade. Kudos go out to the band and Mr. Bowman for a great job. The school carnival was successful again and the pre-game community barbecue was well attended.

A big thank you goes out to the JHS Booster Club who provided all the hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, and more importantly the help needed to make this event a success. Also, thanks to all who brought side dishes and dessert. The event drew hundreds of students and community members who had the opportunity to visit and enjoy a meal together on a beautiful night in the JHS outdoor classroom.

I am continually impressed and commend the students of JHS for their school spirit. Students participating in the community music festival were a big hit again, filling the stage with musicians. The student cheering section has continued to show great support for the teams competing and the cheerleaders. Visiting volleyball coaches and officials have commented on the school spirit.

JHS and the Boulder community will be hosting a high school volleyball tournament this coming Saturday. Talented teams from around the state will be participating. This event will be a great opportunity to showcase the JHS Lady Panthers and the Boulder community. Mark your calendar and come watch some great volleyball.

Finally, I would like to thank Chick Bruce and Bruce Binkowski for their efforts in making radio broadcasts of JHS events a reality again. This allows patrons to follow the JHS teams on the radio if they cannot attend in person. Thanks for your continued support of the JHS community. I look forward to a great year!
