Volleyball season ended last week with the combined state championships in Bozeman. In Class AA Helena Capital took the title over Bozeman with Billings West taking third. Class A saw Billings Central overcome Belgrade for the title and Corvallis took third. Class B Huntley Project kept its streak alive by beating Florence in the championship match, and Roundup took third. Shows how strong the Southern division is in Class B. In Class C Belt overtook Bridger for first with Simms taking third.

Two Jefferson High seniors have been awarded All State honors for their District 5B volleyball seasons.

Simonie Mendenhall and Abby Rosebaum were joined by Matilda Dietz, a Manhattan senior, as the three All State selections by the coaches in 5B.

That trio were among seven players chosen as First Team All Conference. JHS junior Haydin Henschel made that list along with Erin Welter of Three Forks, Taylor Noyes of Broadwater High, and Emma Wass of Manhattan.

Second Team All Conference honors went to Callie Warfle of Jefferson High. Others on the second team: Jolie Wood and Brooklyn Pederson of Big Timber, Paeton Ohs and Kyle Olson of Three Forks, Peyton Vogl of Townsend, and Meagan Johnson of Whitehall. Johnson was the only sophomore to make the award lists. The 5B coaches make the selections, with no coach allowed to vote for his or her own players.

In the Class B football playoffs Fairfield remained unbeaten with a 48-14 win over Bigfork, and Missoula Loyola defeated Sweet Grass County 21-6. This week Fairfield travels to Loyola for the championship. Fairfield defeated Loyola in the second game of the year 38-6 so that should give them confidence to be able to take the title.

Wrestling plus girls and boys basketball practice starts this Thursday. Panther wrestlers will see action on November 30 and December 1 at the Cascade tournament, then they will host a mixer at JHS on December 6. The basketball teams’ first action is December 7-8 at the large Three Forks tournament.

Football Senior Bryce Harrington was voted first team linebacker, junior Avery Stiles was named second team defensive back, and junior Coen Guisti received second team lineman honors from District 5B coaches. As in volleyball, coaches are not allowed to vote on their own players.

Congratulations to the award winners in both sports!
