Jail population cut to lessen chance of COVID-19 outbreak

The number of inmates at the Jefferson County Detention Center has dropped by about half since late March and following Gov. Steve Bullock’s stay-at-home directive.

There were some released on their own recognizance, with conditions, and that was done to mitigate the possibility of a COVID-19 outbreak at the jail, said Jefferson County Attorney Steve Haddon.

Between March 23 and April 27, roughly 10 inmates were released, according to the roster that is updated weekly.
