The race for a four year term as Justice of the Peace is beginning to draw a crowd. Incumbent Dennis Giulio says he does not intend to run, instead retiring at the end of this term. As of the end of his current term, Giulio will have been on the bench for 32 years.

Vying thus far to replace him are three candidates: Montana City attorney Steve Andersen; Deputy Sheriff Dean Hildebrand; and Whitehall business owner Kevin Brunet.

Three other incumbents have filed recently to extend their time in their Jefferson County offices.

County Commissioner Bob Mullen is seeking six more years in his District 3 seat representing the northern portion of the county. He was initially appointed to the office to fill an unexpired term and was then retained by voters.

Anika McCauley, appointed to be County Superintendent of Schools last year upon the resignation of Garry Pace, has also filed for the November ballot, seeking a four year term in the part time position.

Terri Kunz, originally appointed to fill the unexpired term vacated by Patty O’Neill and then elected to complete that term, has filed for a four year extension as the county treasurer.

Filing earlier were incumbents Bonnie Ramey (Clerk and Recorder/Assessor/Surveyor), Craig Doolittle (Sheriff/Coroner), and Steven Haddon (County Attorney/Public Administrator).

As of the end of last week no one had filed to run against any of those six incumbents.
