The first-ever organized flag football home game for Jefferson High School played out Sep. 5, when the Lady Panthers hosted the Lady Bulldogs from Butte High.

The game got off to a shaky start: both teams were flagged for offsides before the first snap. After getting over those jitters, though, both teams got serious. The defenses dominated in a scoreless first half, but some very nice plays were recorded by both teams.

Late in the third quarter, Butte found the end zone for the first time on a nice catch and run play that got past the Panther defenders. The point after — a scrimmage play from the 5 yard line — failed, and Butte led 6-0 after three.

Butte’s 8th-grade quarterback, Rachael Vaughn, found the end zone again in the fourth quarter, getting around the left side and finding a corner — although the official’s signal was not clear to scorekeepers. Final score (give or take): Butte 12, Jefferson 0.

Panthers quarterback Livi Logan played well, but dropped passes by Jefferson receivers and an inability to sustain drives kept the Lady Panthers off the scoreboard. An apparent Jefferson touchdown in the first half was nullified by a penalty. 9th grader Bella Murolo notched 7 flag pulls, one interception and 2 batted balls. Meredith Rieder had 3 catches, 5 flag pulls and one batted ball, while KK Morris had 3 catches and 6 pulls.

Two days later, the Panthers played in a jamboree at Three Forks, defeating Three Forks, 8-6, before falling to Glacier, 28-0. Addie Holman had 8 flag pulls on the day, plus one interception and one batted ball. Kyli Barry recorded 9 flag pulls and one batted ball. Maysa LaFromboise made 5 catches and Rieder had 4 catches, one extra point, and one interception.
