Homemade warmth at Chamber’s holiday bazaar

The aroma of homemade soup greeted visitors to the Jefferson High gym Saturday, where the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Bazaar offered holiday shoppers an array of local crafts, gifts and foods.

Christmas music played from speakers as folks browsed booths arranged across the gray-tarped gym floor. Sellers wore holiday sweaters decorated with polar bears and snowflakes, while others added flair with flashing Christmas light necklaces and earrings. Small plastic evergreen trees dotted tables, their branches decked with ornaments for sale and dusted with artificial snow. 

Caleb Pattin of Elk Mountain Pottery displayed his Montana-inspired ceramics: smooth-curved bowls in browns and sage green next to tall tumblers in earth tones, each piece unique in shape and glaze pattern. His bestsellers – deep red clay mugs and tumblers with hand-carved mountain scenes and turquoise glaze – can be found on his website. He creates his carvings using sgraffito, a technique in which designs are etched into the clay surface.
