Homecoming week was full of activities, parades, decorating and a barbecue. We had plenty of things going on and the week went by without any major issues. I would like to thank Boulder Elementary Superintendent Doug Richards and Boulder Elementary Head Custodian David Deskins for helping flip
burgers and hot dogs at the JHS Booster Club Barbecue. And, thanks to the Booster Club for having the barbecue for our students and local fans. This is a great event, and we appreciate all the hard work the booster club put forth to make it possible.
The construction project is moving forward at a steady pace. Structural steel erection continues over the next few weeks on the two-story addition. [Dick Anderson Construction] is tying the roof of the new addition into the old roof
above the library. Concrete has been poured on the second story of the new addition and internal framing and roof decking will begin soon.
The CTE wing expansion is almost totally closed in with siding. [Dick Anderson] will begin prepping for the new sidewalk and ADA parking spaces outside the CTE area. Hopefully these areas will be poured sometime this week. There are very visible things happening and it’s very exciting. (Completion of the new addition is still on schedule for August of 2024.)
Things are still busy here at Jefferson High, and it’s very apparent we have more students this year than last. Our enrollment last year was approximately 283 students. This year the unofficial count is 311 students which includes afreshman class of 93. To this point, the increased enrollment and large freshman class have not created any huge issues other than lunch and transition between classes. With a larger enrollment there are more bodies moving between classes and filling the lunchroom. There are also more mouths to feed, which leads to more space needed for lunch.
Finally, I want to welcome several new staff members to our school. Kayla Feistner fills the third science position and Glenn Jacobsen will assume the role of woods instructor. Our new school nurse is Stacy Abar and our new administrative assistant in the clerk’s office is TimmieSue Edgerley. We are happy to have those positions filled.
