Recently, nine Jefferson High School Spanish students and one parent of each traveled to Costa Rica as part of a Spanish immersion program in which the school has been participating for a number of years. The weeklong trip included daily Spanish classes with the CPI school in Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica.
Students were assigned to small groups with a teacher and worked on their Spanish skills each morning from 8-12. The afternoons were spent visiting the country and partaking in a variety of recreational activities. The group canyon rappelled, whitewater rafted, zip lined, surfed, and took an ocean cruise that included snorkeling. The highlight of the trip was a visit to a countryside elementary school.
JHS students were able to interact with the Costa Rican students, play games, and also present the school with ten donated computers and numerous suitcases of clothing that had been collected. A big thanks goes out to the JHS community for their support the past two years as students and parents raised funds for the trip.
The opportunity to have an experience like this could not happen without the community. Also, thanks to the JHS school board for donating the surplus computers for the school. Finally, a big thanks goes to Victoria Foster for organizing this great event and keeping the process going from start to finish.
I am personally thankful for the opportunity provided me to accompany this great group of students and parents. There were many compliments about our students.
The students and parents who went to Costa Rica are Hunter Gilbert and his mother Lauri, Ellie Evertz and her mother Colette LeMieux, Kalee Ottman and her mother Karen, Lincoln Leary and his mother Leigh Holmes, Jacob Rausch and his father Larry, Liz Pierce and her father Travis, Josh Eckman and his mother Mary, Tuesday Keener and her mother Sally, and Haley Rogne and her mother Maria.
