Helping hurricane victims a slam dunk for JHS athletes

Jefferson High basketball players will not start their season for a couple of months, but they are already building team spirit with a project to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

The players are gathering tennis shoes and t-shirts in good condition to be donated to the victims of the devastating storm that hit Texas, leaving thousands homeless and with few personal belongings. The team approached Universal Athletic about the project and was handed 24 brand new pairs of shoes – about $3000 worth of shoes. Similar efforts are going on among coaches around the nation. The JHS athletes sent out their donations early this week, but they will make a second submission if necessary later.

Anyone wishing to donate to the effort can drop off their donations – new or nearly new athletic shoes and t-shirts only, please – at JHS.
