Group helps homeowners protect against wildfires

With the approach of wildfire season, Tri-County FireSafe Working Group, a local chapter of the statewide organization FireSafe Montana, continues its efforts to reduce the risk of damage to homes.

The group’s goal is to “reduce the loss of lives and property from the threat of fire in and around Montana communities,” and to “mobilize Montanans to make their homes, neighborhoods, and communities fire safe,” according to FireSafe Montana’s website.

“Forests burn. That’s what they do,” said Doug Dodge, Jefferson County Disaster and Emergency Services coordinator. “We know we can’t stop wildland fires, but we can help people prepare themselves to weather that storm when it comes.”
