I didn’t make our Nov. 5 meeting. Commissioners Bob Mullen and Cory Kirsch approved the Preliminary Plat for the Shadow of Tobacco Root Minor Subdivision near Whitehall. They also approved a subdivision amendment for Lot 58-A Saddle Mountain Estates near Montana City. They awarded a bid for the purchase of a snowmobile for the Elkhorn Search and Rescue. They also approved a lease for the Boulder Airport.

Wednesday, Nov. 6, I was at the Beaverhead/Deer Lodge Forest Working Group meeting in Butte. I invited a couple of folks from the Tri-County Fire Safe Group to give a short presentation about some of the things they can help with. Up to now Tri-County has done most of their work in the Northern part of the County and in Broadwater and Lewis and Clark. They plan to start having a much larger presence in the rest of the County and get more involved with the working group.

Thursday and Friday, Nov. 7 and Nov. 8, I was in Missoula for the Montana Forest Collaboration Network annual workshop. Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney gave a presentation about Forests in Focus 2.0 and the Montana Forest Action Plan. They had several panel discussions about collaborative engagement and the Good Neighbor Authority. It was a great workshop. Between this event and some of the work we are doing on the Beaverhead/Deer Lodge Forest Working Group with the Forest Service, I really think we have turned the corner and have a Forest Service that wants to see progress made, and are willing to think outside the box to make things happen.
