Graduates say “So long!” to Jefferson High

Jefferson High’s Class of 2025 broke into raucous applause and shed a few tears as they received their diplomas at Sunday’s graduation ceremony and prepared to depart for a new chapter.

After a slideshow set to The White Stripes’ “We’re Going To Be Friends,” Superintendent Erik Wilkerson took the stage to introduce JHS’s salutatorian and three valedictorians, each of whom delivered a speech. Valedictorian Madelynn Averill wondered if she would have chased a perfect GPA if she had known her reward would be a public address.

She offered her teachers some sincere gratitude. “Thank you to Ms. McMahon,” said Averill, “who was proud of me for finally letting go of some of the pressure I put on myself.”
