Fiddlers and other musicians will fill the air in Boulder with tunes on Saturday, October 28. The Eighth Annual Boulder Fall Fiddle Fest and Dance, partly a benefit for the local Lego Robotics team and the Heritage Center, is expanding this year to include jam sessions up and down Main Street, according to organizers.
The event starts with an Appalachian Flatfoot Dance Workshop at Boulder City Hall at 1 p.m. The dance style is associated with clogging and features loose, often bent knees. YouTube videos show people of all ages enjoying flatfoot dances with old-time fiddle music. Then throughout the afternoon musicians and music lovers are invited to open jams in Boulder’s main street businesses. Lo- cations hosting the music will be indicated by Fiddle Fest signs. From 2 to 5 p.m. a free concert will take place at the Boulder United Methodist Church at 211 West Centennial.
There is no charge for the concert, but donations will be accepted to help cover the rental of the church and fellowship hall, advertising and printing costs, and costs for sound gear and system. Between 5 and 6:30 p.m. a benefit dinner will be served in the church fellowship hall. Proceeds from that dinner will go to support the robotics program and the Heritage Center.
The day will conclude with a dance at the Basin Community Center from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The dance will be called by Derek Gallagher with music provided by the Nightcrawlers. Organizers say there will be fun dances for all ages and abilities. Admission to the dance is $8, which organizers say is to defray costs of the hall, band and caller. Children will be admitted free.
The event is organized by Wobbly Boy Productions. For more information, call Dusty Farnum at465-7282 or email wobblyboy1@gmail.com.
