Governor’s Cup to move races out of Jefferson County

The start of the 2024 Governor's Cup half marathon in Clancy. The start of the race will be moved to Helena this year.

Governor’s Cup race officials announced on Feb. 4 that they have cancelled this year’s full marathon race and will re-route the half-marathon course to an area in the South Hills — mostly taking the event, a fundraiser for the Montana Caring Foundation that draws competitors from across the country, out of  Jefferson County.

Both races have had their starting lines in the county for the past few years. The start for the marathon was on Corbin Road in Jefferson City, while the  half-marathon began on Clancy Creek Road in Clancy. This year’s half-marathon will begin in Helena, sharing a starting line with the Cup’s other races.

Bryan Haines, the Governor’s Cup Race Coordinator for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Montana, told The Monitor that race organizers began reassessing the marathon after learning from Jefferson County that Corbin Road had been resurfaced, changing it from a chip seal top to a new polymer.
